Season Recap: Golf

With daily practices at nearby ranges, occasional tee times at Newton Commonwealth, and weekly matches, the golf team had opportunities to strengthen their skills over the course of their season, Golf Head Coach Shane Bourque said.

Coach Bourque said the goals of the season were for the 13 team members to grow as golfers and have fun.

“Golf is especially a mentally challenging sport, so it is important to be level-headed and stay focused throughout the round,” he said. “It can be very frustrating, so it is important to make sure you relax and enjoy the time on the course.”

Co-Captain James Wade ’21 recalled a season highlight off course after a match.

“After a very successful day at The Kittansett [Club] against [Noble and Greenough School] and Tabor, the whole team went to a nearby pizza and subs place and got to eat food out in the parking lot. We hadn’t had many opportunities for team bonding up to that point, so it was a particularly special experience,” he said.

Co-captain Jack Theobald ’22 said he particularly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with underclassmen.

“I’ve been trying to look out for underclassmen because I know that when I was in their shoes, I really benefited from having some older leaders who looked out for me,” he said.

Golf ended the season with a record of 3-5, though it was an unofficial match season because of the pandemic.
