As we get wrapped up in the final trimester of our school year, often denoted as the scariest trimester, culminating with the notorious AP Exams, the freshman history paper, the sophomore debates and the junior profile, let’s not lose ourselves in “the grind.” When we become too focused on academic pressure, we forget the amazing benefits the Upper School offers. So let’s all take a moment to refocus and discover the hidden gems of the school that we may be overlooking.
Had a long day of tests? Need a pick-me-up? Make your way to Ms. Farlow’s office and get yourself a piece of chocolate or candy in exchange for a simple joke. Make someone smile for the sugar you so desperately need. But if you’re feeling too grouchy to interact with anyone, you can head down the stairs to the college counseling office to grab a free piece of candy. Just remember to say thank you!
Now let’s talk about the academic sanctuary you can give yourself in this time of stress. The four rooms you often see filled with groups of friends in the study area are actually meant for productivity! You can book them yourself for a guaranteed quiet space, as we know the quiet room doesn’t always live up to its name, or for a meeting room.
Simply search the Almy Library, choose the room you would like, select a time or scan the QR code outside. While you’re at it, you might as well take advantage of free subscriptions to The Boston Globe and The New York Times!
Lastly, the cage, located in the NAC, is a lifesaver for any athletic mishaps or missing gear. You can find just about anything, from forgotten or misplaced items in the locker room, extra clothing like shorts, sports bras and socks, or even equipment like mouthguards and shin guards.
We know this time is stressful, but remember the best aspects of our school, and go take advantage of everything it offers!
