On Patriots’ Day, to properly commemorate the battles of Lexington and Concord, which sparked the Revolutionary War, I traveled to Harvard Square to conduct a battle of burgers. The fine establishments that I voyaged to included Tasty Burger, Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage (commonly known as Mr. Bartley’s), Charlie’s Kitchen, and Shake Shack.
To eliminate all potential bias, I ordered a standard cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles from each restaurant over the phone. Of course, the cheese was American, out of respect for those Patriots who fell on this day 250 years ago. While the French did heroically assist in the war, I chose not to order French fries to keep this review to what truly matters: burger excellence. The burgers were laid out on a serving dish by a third party with no identification of their restaurant provided. Organized in the following order, the burgers were assigned a number from left to right (one is on the left, and four is on the right).
