Our holiday wish list

Dear non-denominational holiday figure,

’Twas the knight before winter break, and all through the school, not a creature was stirring, not even the mouse on the third floor. We here at Bucky High have been good students all year long, and we think we have earned ourselves a spot on the non- denominational nice list. So we’ve put together a brief list of our holiday wishes.

We wish for:

Working Wi-Fi in all classrooms and all areas

of the Commons.

Students to follow correct study room decorum:

If you are doing solo work and are not on a Zoom call, do not take up an entire studyroom.

If the study room is in use, do not sign up on the spreadsheet to kick out the current occupants.
Understand that the library study rooms are not soundproof. We repeat: NOT SOUNDPROOF.

The town of Watertown to graciously remove the two-hour parking limits at Filippello Park. Students during first lunch to no longer leave out their dirty dishes as presents for their peers during second lunch.

The cold, crispy water from the Drama Room water fountain to be all over the school.
Bake sales to not sell out during first lunch, leaving upperclassmen sugar-deprived and hangry. In the words of Photo Editor Krishna Patel ’25, “Imagine if we had bake sales everyday—OH MY GOD YES!”

Students to show their support for their fellow knights in all winter athletics! Cheer on the hockey teams from the rink or Stonestreet Lounge, sit courtside at basketball games, show up for a fencing match, or watch the squash teams battle on the courts.

Winter sports to pick up where our fall teams left off: with teamwork, sportsmanship, and success. A few trophies wouldn’t hurt, either! More smiles in the hallways.

No more global warming—yes, I know, a tall order, but a real snow day would be an amazing start.
A rejuvenating holiday break for all Upper School students and faculty. Take the time to relax and unwind before the new year. Watch your comfort movies, listen to your favorite music, eat good food, and try to remain in denial that you eventually do have to return to school and get your exam grades back. Seniors to get their remaining college applications in on time with minimal stress. More people reading The Vanguard! (We can always hope and dream.)

May all your holiday knights be bright!
