Welcome, new faculty!

As the 2023-2024 school year begins, new faculty and some familiar ones (welcome back, Mr. Moccia) will arrive on campus. The Vanguard asked the new staff members some icebreaker questions.

Anthony Moccia ’10  Science Teacher

1. What is one fun fact about you?

I think my most fun fact is that I am now a dad. Being a dad means many things, but the most fun thing, and also the most annoying, is I now am obligated to constantly make dad jokes.

2. What superlative did you receive in high school?

Friendliest.

3. What is one thing you wish you had done in high school?

I wish I had known what I know now, which is the unum necessarium. Come to think of it, I do wish I had paid a bit more attention in my 8 years of Latin and classics studies. If you need help translating the quote, better go to Ms. Cranston or Dr. Young!

4. Why did you decide to come back?

BB&N is my home. I missed it. I especially missed my students and colleagues. While this past year was what I needed to grow in my career and faith, it also helped plant the desire to come back full time as part of the BB&N community.

Miyoung Lee Visual Arts Teacher

1. What is one fun fact about you?

I used to have a heavy Long Island accent.

2. What superlative did you receive in high school? We weren’t given superlatives when I was in high school, but I would probably say, “Most likely to choose ‘A Room with a View,’” which was one of my favorite movies as a teenager based on a novel by E.M. Forster. It’s also a metaphor for what you want in life and in choosing, “A Room with a View” you want a room or a view of your life made up of experiences based on personal choice instead of societal or cultural expectations.

3. What is one thing you wish you had done in high school?

Sometimes I wish I had stayed in band or joined chorus or a dance club in high school.

1. What is one fun fact about you?

Two fun things I did this summer: I officiated my sister’s wedding and saw the Jonas Brothers in concert!

2. What superlative did you receive in high school? I was not nearly cool enough in high school to get a superlative (as evidenced by seeing the Jonas Brothers live this year).

3. What is your most embarrassing memory from high school?

Everything seemed embarrassing to me in high school! Wearing a coat! Not knowing which bus was mine! If I could go back, I would work to breathe and relax.

1. What is one fun fact about you?

A fun fact about me is that I am an Irish citizen!

2. What superlative did you receive in high school? My superlatives in high school were “best dressed” and “best siblings” which I was given along with my older sister.

3. What is one thing you wish you had done in high school?

If I could go back to my high school years, I would give myself more self-love, grace, and gratitude. My best advice is to recognize how hard it is to be a teenager and allow yourself to grow and change!

1. What is one fun fact about you?

My family owns an independent bookstore up in New Hampshire.

2. What superlative did you receive in high school? Sadly, I don’t remember what the superlatives were for my high school! I think an appropriate one for me would be “Most Likely to Laugh.”

3. What is your most embarrassing memory from high school?

An embarrassing moment from high school was learning how to drive in the school parking lot. I wasn’t a very good driver at first and having other students watch me learn was a little mortifying!
